We decided to try the Hotel Dinner for breakfast. It was a huge mistake. It was super crowded with High School Students and they only had the buffet to choose from and it was not good. After breakfast we headed to the White House. The nice thing about our hotel was how close it was to everything
.
Happy Birthday Wade! He turned 57 today and got to spend the morning in the White House. The President was not on the move that day so we guess that meant he was home. We did not see him.
We headed to the line to get in, which was very small, gave them our name and showed our ID. Slick, until we got to Travis. He gave his name and they could not find it. This would have been really sad if Travis could not have gotten into the White House. They finally found his name but it was listed as Travis William. they made him sit in this little fenced in area while they ran a check on him to make sure he was who he said he was. Kim went to take this picture of him and got in trouble because there were no pictures aloud after we had passed security. Ooooops.
When we exited the White House and headed for the gate, they would not let us leave. LeeAnn heard that we were waiting for the motor cage of the Vice President to pass before we could leave and enter the street. They said that they never know which entrance they will take. So we waited and waited. It finally passed on the other street, not our. We were let go. After the White House tour we headed back to the Hotel to get our cameras and other stuff we needed and headed to Ford's Theatre. We toured the Museum and then watched a play about the day Lincoln was shot. After we were going to go across the street to the home they took Lincoln to and tour it but it was packed with students on field trips. We learned that May is field trip month for not only local students, but students all over the country. Every where we went was filled with students.
On our way to the International Spy Museum, our next stop, we ate at the Shake Shack. I believe it was a must from Melanie to eat at. It was delicious and also right next to the Museum.
I have to admit this was my least favorite thing that we did in D.C. the Spy Museum. Wade and Travis really enjoyed it so that was good. After the Museum we headed to the National Mall and the Museum of Air and Space. On our information booklet it said it closed at 7:30 p.m. so we thought we had a few hours to spend. When we got there we realized it was only open until 5:30 so we ran through it in an hour. Below are some highlights.
This was our friend outside the Museum. We were resting and deciding where to go eat and he came right up to us. It lasted a little while until a young child decided to chase him away.
Chop't is where we headed for dinner. I thought it was very good. Wade could not find anything to eat there so he headed out to find somewhere else to eat. He ended up at the White Apron again. After heading back to the Hotel Travis realized that he did not have his backpack which had several items of value in it. He quickly looked up the number and called. Yes, they found it and would hold it for him. He and I headed back rather quickly to pick it up. Everything was in it which was good. Now, back to the hotel to rest our weary bones and find Wade.
