Dear Mom and Dad,
This week has been...fun...haha! I've been sick with a cold since friday, along with my companion. Its kinda sucky to try and talk with everyone on the streets when you can't stop coughing and sneezing. Everyone asks, "dang nimen shi ganmao de shi hou, ni chuandaobu hui rang ni zuo shenme?" And we say "chuanjiao" of course. I'm feeling better today, but I really want to take a nap.
On Friday, we woke up at 3 in the morning to catch the 4:15 bus for Taichung. It was a long, tired day. Elder Bednar did not make it to Taichung, he was up in Taibei. But he sent his love. We did hear from Elder Jensen of the Presidency of the Seventy, that was a great opportunity. We were able to shake his hand, which he told us was an interview in itself. Yep. We learned a lot about what we learned in the preexistence, and that missionaries are helping remember more than learn.
We have not had rain too often, but no worries! July is coming, monsoon season! Yeah! For about 2 months, it will be pouring rain all day everyday.
I, in fact, would not be able to keep the turtle. No pets. It was more the adventure of trying to catch it. Haha! My babylon list has books and movies and stuff I want to remember for when I can actually do that kind of thing. That, and go to Legoland.
My glasses broke when I sat on them. Haha! Thats me.
The translators are really cool, its a language learning tool. We have permission from President Bishop if we'd like one. Like I said, its about 100-200 dollars, but definitely worth it.
So, I have to ask more about me being an uncle, I'm a little foggy on the details. When is this baby due? Do they know if it is a boy or girl? If they can't take care of the baby, would you try to step in? I'm glad I don't need to worry about it. I only have to worry about my Recent Convert who is involved with the Taiwanese Mafia. True story! That's all I can tell you.
I have a really interesting investigator named Mr. Li, he is the easiest baptism I've ever seen. He's pretty weird, he never stops talking, and sometimes he says things that are a little creepy. We went to visit him at his house, which is in our secondary area, about 45 minutes away from the church on a bike. By the time we got there, it was dark and about to rain, and he said "well, I guess the three of us will just have to sleep together." Ehh...not with a 50 year old man... When we got home, he called about 10:20 and said he was at the chapel, and wanted to know where we were. At home... He thought we lived at the church, and he drove 20 minutes out to see if we got home safe. Its just weird. But he was living the Word of Wisdom before we found him, he has no problems with commandments or our doctrine, so when he comes to church next sunday, we'll be able to announce his baptism. Its crazy.
There's an 18 girl in my area that has a crush on me, its really weird. She self contacted me, and she wants to hang out with me. So obviously, I referred her to the sisters. But man, every time she sees me, she comes up and flirts very boldly. Girls are really weird, she cannot take a subtle hint like "I don't want a girlfriend." Crazy crazy.
The stamps I use have to be from Taiwan. There not very expensive, I just need to buy some.
I was tracting the other day, and we came up to this wearhouse filled with wood products from indonesia. We tried to chuanjiao with the boss, but he wasnt interested. We were looking around a bit, and I pointed out that he had some Christian stuff. Next thing I know, he gave me this big wooden crucifix, its over a foot tall, with a wooden Jesus hanging on it and everything. I was a little suprised, but you can't really deny gifts here. So my desk has a crucified Jesus looking over it. Its kinda funny, thought you'd be interested.
Hey, I was wondering if you would send me some music. I have some Japanese folk and Chinese folk music that is fine to listen to, its all on my itunes. The Chinese folk is by a guy names Li Qiong or something like that. Would you mind looking into that for me? You could just burn them and send them or something. Just throwing that out there. I'm going to ask president about a CD called "One Day" by Matisyahu. Its an orthodox Jew who does reggae, its all about God and Israel. Just thought I'd see what you'd think.
I love this country, the people here are so funny. There really is a lot of success here as a missionary, many people are prepared to recieve the gospel. I am so thankful for this opportunity to serve as a missionary here in Taiwan. I love you!
