Dear Mom and Dad,
Hello!
It was definitely an interesting week. Because of the heat and a
bunch of meetings, its been a lot more difficult to find people to talk
to and set up times with. As a result, we had five investigators at
church and a ton of new investigators. Honestly, it was super weird.
Haha!
We are currently meeting with an investigator named Grandpa Fu.
Yeah, he's a character. He is AT LEAST 80, but I suspect he is much
older. He is from China, and he doesn't have any teeth, so its a little
tricky trying to understand him. I'm positive he doesn't understand
half of what we say. Everytime we visit, he is sitting in a lawnchair
in the exact same position. But he proudly tells us that he is a
Christian. We had a member help us pick him up and bring him to church
yesterday, it was really cute, because he got really excited and
chatty. I guess its been a while. Anyways, he is going to take a long
time to teach, but he has a very solid baptismal goal. Its
interesting. The ward is cool with trying to baptize him.
We are also meeting with a
Buddhist monk, I think I've mentioned him before. We gave him a
baptismal invitation, and he said he was willing. He seemed pretty
happy about it. Its funny, he said "these people here, they take those
idols of people and make them out to be gods. I don't worship them, I
only worship the Lord." He reads the Book of Mormon and prays daily.
We're arranging a member to bring him to church next week, it'll be
exciting. The hardest part will be living a life of integrity. He
shouldn't be living at a monestary if he doesn't believe in Buddha.
We have a cool navy officer we're meeting with, he brought a friend
to church last week. He went out and bought a white shirt and a
scripture case, because he saw we use them. Solid gold. He is
developing really quickly. He may be moving to Yilan in a few weeks, so
we gotta figure that out.
We are still meeting with Bro. Zhang, he's doing great. He'll be
getting baptized August 4th or 5th. His daughter may be in town for his
baptism.
Those are some of the people of interest we are meeting with.
Wow, I can't believe you saw Richie! Man, I miss that man. But
I'll see him soon enough. He hasn't mentioned anything about BYU Idaho
yet. Its not very likely, but he can try. :) I'll really be excited to
see his entire family.
I'm glad you got to meet Yating! Haha, was she laughing at you, or
at herself? Its so easy to feel like an idiot living in a foreign
country speaking with natives in their native tongue. Last saturday, we
had a great lesson in the morning, everything went smoothly. The next
lesson, the investigator didn't understand anything I said. Haha! Its
very humbling. Yeah, I think she's a really fun girl. Its probably a
little different because I speak Chinese. Anyways, I hope you had a
good impression. Thats all I have to say. On the other hand, Sis.
Combe (Savannah) is not my type, thank you very much. Haha!
I did hear about the shooting, thats crazy. Do they know why he
did it? I heard something about the Presidential elections being paused
for a time of mourning or something.
Well, thats all I have to say for now. Hey Dad, I'll be sending
you a letter, don't let Mom read it. Sorry! Mom, I'll send you some
pictures. If you want, you can show Dad. Have a good week!
Love,
Elder Travis Leatham
