Day 10 - June 18, 2011
Today we were able to go to Dubrovnik, Croatia. Part of the city is surrounded by a stone wall that you can climb and walk the entire city. The wall was built for protection but was never used until 1990 during a civil war.
The houses that have the brown roofs are homes that were still standing after the war. The roofs that are red are the homes that were destroyed during the civil war and rebuilt. I found it fascinating how close the new and old homes are. That bombs are so accurate as to leave homes next to each other not touched by the destruction.
We stopped at a little cafe to have lunch. We just ordered one pizza for four of us and the waitress thought we were crazy to order just one. I guess in Italy everyone can eat there own large pizza. Also in Dubrovnik I had my first experience with European toilets. I hope to never have that experience again in my life time.
