Washington D.C.

May 2 & 3, 2014

We knew there would be alot of driving time getting from Atlanta to Washington.  We should have planned better and actually taken one more day to get to Washington.

     *Breakfast at Hotel
     *Headed to Asheville, North Carolina
*Ate at The Pompous Pig, in Anderson, South Carolina (excellent food, similar to Dickey's)

h

*Headed to Clingmans Dome which is a mountain in the Smokey Mountains

This bear was on the right side of the trail and as we got closer it ran to the left side of the road.
It started at Travis and LeeAnn.  Travis started running and LeeAnn froze.
I wish we had gotten a picture of that.  Wade saw another bear farther up the trail.  By the time we all got to him the bear had disappeared in the woods.

We stopped at Subway for dinner.  No not fancy but filled our bellies.  We ate at a picnic area in the Smokey Mountains.

We then headed to Asheville arriving about 11:00 pm.   We had traveled through Georgia, South Carolina, back to Georgia, to North Carolina, and Tennessee before arriving in Asheville.

Kim drove all day to get us to Washington D.C.  Other than stopping to eat we just drove.  We stopped at a place called Tripps for lunch and then Chic-fa-le for dinner.  We arrived in Washington around 8:30 pm that evening and checked into our hotel, The Harrington.  The parking for the hotel was about four blocks away.  We all opted to go with to park the suburban and then walk back to the hotel.  We were pleasantly surprised by our room.  We had booked a room with 2 full beds and ended up with a suite with two separate rooms.  It was a very old hotel, having its 100th anniversary but it was clean and in the middle of Washington making it very convenient to get to most anywhere we wanted to go.
