Travis has decided to attend the University of Utah next year. Everything had been done except orientation. The U offers day and overnight orientations. Until that is done you can not register for classes. Of course, all the dates for the day orientations happened while he is in Japan. We helped him get registered for an overnight one. The orientation happened two weeks ago.
We took a dry run on Sunday so everyone was clear on where the building was he needed to be at Monday afternoon. It was a good thing because we got so lost. It took us quite a while to find the building. The map that was sent with his confirmation was no help to us at all. Every turn it had us make was either a dead end or we ended up at student housing. Little did we know that where we wanted to be was in the middle of student housing.
Monday when I drove him up he seemed very calm and excited about the whole experience. It went well for him and he was able to get registered.
Monday evening after the activities were over he headed back to the dorm room he was to stay in. It was locked. He knocked and his roommate for the night opened the door. To Travis' surprise the room had several other people also in it already. His roommate for the night had invited some friends over and they were smoking pot. It made for a very exciting time. The campus police were called (not by Travis). The roommate was asked to leave and Travis was put in another room. Good way to start your college experience. Luckily he will be living at home and not on campus, at least for the first year.
