Day 12 - June 20

This was our second day in Venice. We again took the People Mover into Venice and then headed to Doge Palace. The palace housed political institutions of the Republic of Venice until the Napoleonic occupation of the city in 1797. The palazzo's principal function was to provide a space for the government to carry out its civic responsibilities to its people. The doge did, in fact, reside in the palazzo, however, he held no real power and was a representative figurehead for the Republic. I found the Doge palace to be just as beautiful and ornate as the Vatican. The ceilings we plated with gold and the pictures, tapestries, and rooms were amazing.

Wade fighting a statue?
This was a clock tower but it almost looked like Angel Moroni on the top but with wings. The information that we read said that these two statues guarding the steps were referred to as Paul Newman and Moses. You can decided which is which. Really they are Neptune and Mars. You can still decided which is which.

This is a view from outside Doge Palace of the tunnel leading to the prison. I read that at one time it was not very difficult to end up in prison. It said that one anonymous accusation was enough to get you sent to the terrible prisons in the Doge Palace.

Once we had toured Doge Palace we wandered around St. Marks Square. This is a picture of the Clock Tower.

Venice was one of my favorite spots on the trip. Each night on board the ship a movie would be playing. Some of the nights it would coincided with the place which we had been docked that day. One night they had a James Bond movie, I don't know which one, but it was fun to see him running through St. Marks Square and be able to say I have actually been there.

This was our bunny friend for the night!
