Time Out For Women

Last Friday and Saturday, November 13 & 14, I had the opportunity to attend Time Out For Women, Sweet Assurance. When I first heard about it, and decided to go, I thought it was going to be classes with different speakers that you chose which ones interested you. Something like BYU Education Week. I was surprised when I received my tickets to discover that all attending met in the Grand Ballroom at the Salt Palace for the entire event. I was a little skeptical and even thought to myself, I don't think I'll go, even though I had paid for it already. I am so glad that I did not choose that option. It was very uplifting, thought provoking, and enjoyable for me.

The presenters all had great messages with challenges you could apply to your life or, of course, just ignore. One quote given has stayed with me. It is a quote by Jeffery Holland, "We act like we are staying here (meaning this earthly life) when we are not. We can't and we wont." I appreciated that quote so much. It helped me remember that we made the choice to come to this earth. We chose a body with all the trials and joys that comes with it. What we choose to do in this life is what we choose to live with in the next life. This life is to test us and I certainly want to pass that test. Somedays are so much easier that others.

Sheri Dew was the concluding speaker and she mentioned a meeting she had been in with Elder Bednar. Conference had just concluded a few days prior and he asked three questions. What did we hear, what did we learn, and now what are we going to do with it. Three great questions to ask all the time with any event. I feel I live a pretty good life tyring to help those around me but I can always, and need to, do better.

There is my sermon for the year.
