November 14, 2011 Email

Dear Mom and Dad,
Well, I had an interesting week. Yep yep yep!
We ended up not golfing, it was raining. We ate pizza instead. Haha! Today, we went up to the giant Buddha in my area with the Zone...and then we ate pizza. Next week, I'll probably eat pizza. Since being a missionary, a lot of things I didn't like have become interesting. When you are not allowed to do anything else, golfing becomes really fun! I'm glad missionaries are not allowed to go swimming, no one ever bothers me about that.
Tom Huynh won his election? Well that's pretty interesting. I remember him last election. You know, I keep thinking that running for office would be cool, we'll see what happens. I probably wait until after I graduate college, if I ever decided to do so. Plus, I have to decide what to run for. Good thing I have plenty of time.
Here's an interesting story. Last year, when I went to tell Mr. Owen that I was leaving on my mission, he told me that his brother lived in Taizhong, and was an English teacher. He told me to look out for him if I had the chance. Well, today when we visited the Buddha in my area, we met a tall white guy from Murray named Owen. I asked him if his brother's name was Ben, and sure enough, it was his brother. He mentioned Mr. Owen telling him that his student was going to be serving a mission in Taiwan. What an interesting coincidence! Maybe you can send this clip of my letter to Mr. Owen via Facebook or email.
BTW, did you ever ask Sis. Karen Jones if Brandon's MTC teacher was Brother Sagars? He is currently living in my ward with his wife.
Another interesting story, we found a Buddhist temple in my area that has statues representing the 18 levels of Buddhist hell. We went there today. There was a bunch of robotic statues of demons torturing people who had committed sin. The top floor had robots that would jump out to scare you, screaming noises, etc. Anyways, it was really creepy, definitely never thought I would see that in my lifetime. It kind of reminded me of Dante's Inferno.
Oh, the baptismal interviews! It was for a brother and sister, the sister is 13, the brother 9. The girl had a normal interview, no problems. But when the boy got there, he was really angry, because his sister wouldn't let him ride the bike, or something like that. So I threw him on the back of my bike, and said "women keyi qu Seven Eleven, hao bu hao?" So I took him to Seven Eleven with my companion, we bought him a slurpee (silebing) and did a secret interview. He passed, no problems. He asked me to baptize him, hahaha! They have to work out a few family issues I can't talk about, but when they get baptized, I'll let you know!
You can do anything you'd like with my room. Haha! All the houses here are really ugly, so you could do anything and it would look good.
Elder Wang and I have recieved a lot of blessings the past few weeks. Its been hard for me to proselyte the past week, I've had a hard time getting rid of a nasty cold, and its been pretty chilly lately. But we've had a number of investigators who have began progressing. We hope to see a number of baptisms at the end of the month and the beginning of December. I know I need to continue being dilligent, obedient, and worthy.
I sent a letter to you for Colbie, please give it to her for me.
I did buy a 2 pant suit, its really nice. I talked them down to 3700 kuai, which I figured was about 125 dollars in America. I figured that was pretty good. That was the best deal I had heard all day. The crazy part is, when I took the pants home, I found a giant dead cockroach in the pocket. Nasty. I took it back today, they were really embarrassed, but I figure as long as they take care of it, its not a huge problem.
Love you! I walked into my apartment last night, and I was annoyed that my companion left his shoes in the middle of the floor. Then I thought about my dear mother. Remember all the times I thought playing video games was more important than cleaning or picking up after myself? I apologize. Have a great week!
