Other than St. Andrews golf course, I think this was the day the brothers were looking forward to the most. Nuneaton and Polesworth is where their Granny lived when she was a girl. Her house was the first stop and at 110 York Street we found it. Granny had lived there around 1910. There was a plaque on the wall that said the building was built in 1890. The neighbors were very friendly and allowed us in to the back yard even though the owner of the home was at work.
The neighbor asked where we were headed next, which was Riversley Park. This is the park that Granny and her sister Cynthia first saw the mormon missionaries. The neighbor said to follow him in his car and he would show us the way and he did. The park has a small museum that we walked through that gave a brief history of what occurred during WWI in Nuneaton.
Then on our way to Polesworth to find St. Editha's Abbey and graveyard where two of Granny's brothers are buried. It was fairly easy to find. A female volunteer was very helpful but unable to locate the two graves. They do not have graves mapped out like we do. We looked for quite a while but could not find them. Very disappointing. Ate a quick sandwich at local shop and back in the car headed to London.
Drive to London went fairly well. The traffic was heavy with a little incident with a lane closer. Other than that, went well. Getting the airport car rental drop off was a different story. Again the GPS got us close but not quite there. Finally found it and all did a big sigh when we parked and got out. A gentleman came to check us in but didn't do much but check the mileage and look at gas. He did have a car rental shirt on. This made Shelly very nervous and after walking away Dick, Dave, and Shelly went back to make sure it was legit and he had not just driven away in our car. Wade and I not worrying about it had no idea where they were when we got to the main airport.
We opted for a taxi instead of bus into London. After a 30 minute taxi ride we arrived at our hotel. Checked in and then headed for dinner. Found a greek diner and had dinner. We made a plan of what we all wanted to see in London and Dave said he would figure out the best use of the next two days so we could fit everything in. We all agreed we were glad to be rid of the car and headed back to the hotel for a good nights rest.
