Work!

Whether a woman works at home as a mother and homemaker, goes to an office of some type each day, or has a job that is worked from home, it is still work in my book.  In fact, if they work outside the home then they have two jobs.  Running a home is definitely a full time job.

I started working in the home when the boys were little. I sewed labels on t-shirts.  It was great because if I needed to I could sew in the middle of the night, during naps, or anytime.  As in any job there were frustrations, but not big ones.

When both boys were in school full time I took over Wade's part time accounting job.  It worked well.  It was doing the accounting for three companies, Diversified Flooring, Diversified Flooring Maintenance, and TID (at the time Total Interior Demolition, they have since changed it to TID).  All three companies worked out of the same office and it only took about two days a week to do the work. Eventually TID built a new office and moved to North Salt Lake. The owner's worked with my schedule so that if I needed to be at the school, or if one of the boys was ill, I could come in another day other than Tuesday or Wednesday and get my work done.  It worked out okay for 11 years.

April of 2011 I felt like it was time to part ways with the companies.  There were several reason, which I will not get into, but it was time.  I gave my notice the end of April making sure they knew that I would be gone for two weeks in June and that my last day would be the last week in July.  They waited, and waited to start looking for someone.  They hired someone, on Wade's recommendation, the week I left for a two week vacation.  Side note; I had always arranged vacations around my work schedule, except for Girls Camp one year and Wade went in one day and I came home from camp one day and then went back. Because of there lack of urgency, I had to train the owners wife at TID to do the work there while I was gone.  Diversified I was able to do as much of the two weeks worth of work before I left.  Leaving what could not be done until I returned home.

I trained my replacement for six weeks, which is really only six days at each company because I only go in one day a week for each.  He quit, giving them no notice so of course no time to train a new person, the end of December.  They placed a call to me asking if I would come in and work until they could replace the young man that left.  I gave them my rate and a deadline.  They agreed.  I felt a little bit obligated since Wade had recommended this young man.  What a mess!  Cleaned it up, did everything for year end, and they did hire someone rather quickly.  Really liked her.  She actually had some experience with payroll, payroll taxes, and financials.  She had worked on quickbooks before so I thought this will be great.  Trained her for 8 weeks and then lots of phone calls.  She caught on quickly but had nothing but troubles with TID's payroll.  Not sure why, but she did.  Yes, you guessed it, she quit.

Now why I am back again I am not sure.  She would not train a new person.  She was done!!!!!!  This time I do not feel obligated but I said yes.  Crazy I know.  Next week when I go in I am going to have a nice sit down talk with the owners to explain when I will be done and what they need to look for when they hire a new person.  Wish me luck. (Anyone know of someone with accounting background that is looking for a part-time job?)
